When Your Child Wants More — But You’re Not Ready to Decide

April 13, 20261 min read

After a break, or as the seasons begin to change, it’s common for children to start asking for more — more time out, more independence, more say in what they do.

And while that can be a really positive shift, it can also leave you feeling like everything suddenly needs deciding.

In this episode, we explore why these everyday questions can feel harder than they should — and why it’s not really about the question itself.

You’ll hear:

  • why being asked “on the spot” can make even simple decisions feel difficult

  • what’s happening when you say yes, no, or over-explain in the moment

  • and a small shift that can make these situations feel much easier to handle

This isn’t about getting it right every time.

It’s about having enough space to decide what actually works — for your child and for you.

If you’ve ever noticed that your reactions change depending on the situation, there’s usually a pattern to it.

Understanding people has always been a passion of mine, and becoming a parent made that understanding even more real. My counselling training helped me explore the emotional challenges of parenting — not perfectly, but with more presence, compassion, and clarity. Now I run a social enterprise supporting families through group work, counselling, and digital learning.
